The History of Elevator Industry in Iran and the World

 

The elevator is one of the most primitive and simple machines made by human hands, which has always come to his aid. The elevator industry in the world is 150 years old. The most important elevator manufacturing companies in the world are Otis and Schindler with a history of about one hundred and fifty years. The first escalator was built in 1881 in the United States of America by Jess Webliureno and was used to transport wooden poles and metal bars into ships. The name escalator was used for the first time in 1900 for a moving staircase that was exhibited at an exhibition in Paris. The maximum height of escalators today is 18 meters.

The elevator was imported to Iran at the end of the Qajar period to be installed in the Abadan refinery. At first, the elevators were completely imported from abroad, but in 1353, the Iran Schindler factory was put into operation with a capacity of 400 elevators per year. With the end of the Iran-Iraq war, the construction industry grew in Iran, which also led to the growth of the elevator industry. Today, more than hundreds of companies and workshops are active in the field of manufacturing and producing elevators and peripheral equipment and installation services in the country. Currently, estimates show that an average of 50,000 elevators are installed and operated in the country every year.

This period of the exhibition of elevators and escalators, organized by the Iran Chamber of Cooperation at the permanent site of international exhibitions in Tehran, with the presence of Jafar Sarqini, Acting Minister of Security, Mohammad Eslami, Minister of Roads and Urban Development, Dr. Bahman Abdulahi, President of the Iran Chamber of Cooperation, Dr. Bahman Hossein Zadeh, CEO of J.A. Iran International Exhibitions Joint Stock Company, was inaugurated. In this period of the exhibition, well-known brands of the construction industry, elevators, and escalators, along with various companies, industries, and businesses related to the construction industry, had an active and extensive presence.

The second international exhibition of elevators, escalators, and parts, equipment, and accessories, was held with the participation of more than 150 domestic and foreign companies from Iran and Italy, Turkey, Germany, and China in an area of more than 10 thousand square meters and It was held in halls 8, 9 and 27 of Tehran International Exhibition. In the second international exhibition of elevator industries, escalators, elevators and parts, equipment and accessories, types of elevators, types of escalators, control panels, installation and commissioning, hydraulic elevator equipment, floor cabins, and doors, hinged doors, types of ropes Steel, towing wire, industrial propeller belts, artificial stones for elevator floors, steel cabin sheets, hydraulic jacks, gearless motors, and other related industries and equipment were offered.

The third international elevator exhibition, in comparison with the previous periods, had grown by about seventy percent. In this period, companies from Germany, Italy, China, Turkey, and South Korea were also present.
The fourth international exhibition of Iran LIFTEX was held with the participation of 230 domestic companies, and companies and representatives from China, Turkey, South Korea, Italy, Bulgaria, and Germany at the Tehran International Exhibition Center. Several foreign delegations from different countries including Switzerland, Turkey, Afghanistan, and Azerbaijan attended and visited the exhibition. The signing of dozens of investment and export contracts between various domestic and foreign companies was another success of the 4th International Exhibition of Elevator and Related Industries and Equipment.
The fifth international exhibition of elevators, related industries, and equipment, with the participation of 139 domestic companies and 43 foreign companies from Germany, Taiwan, Turkey, and China, was held in a space of 20,000 square meters in 2016. The Minister of Industry, Mines and Trade told reporters on the sidelines of this exhibition: “The Islamic Republic currently provides two-thirds of its capacity internally in the escalator industry; In fact, 70% have reached self-sufficiency and the country needs more than four thousand escalators every year”.
The 6th international exhibition of elevators and related industries and equipment, which is considered the largest exhibition and event of the elevator industry in the Middle East region, was held in an area of more than 25 thousand square meters with the participation of more than 280 domestic and foreign companies. Of these, 190 were domestic companies and 90 foreign companies were from Germany, Italy, Taiwan, Turkey, Japan, China, Switzerland, Croatia, and South Korea. Several conferences and educational workshops were held on the sidelines of the 6th International Exhibition of Elevators and Related Industries and Equipment. The 6th international exhibition of elevators and related industries and equipment was held in the halls on the west side of the permanent place of international exhibitions and showed more than fifty percent growth compared to the previous period.
The 7th international exhibition of Iran LIFTEX started at the permanent location of Tehran international exhibitions with the participation of more than 210 domestic and foreign companies. In this round of the exhibition, there were 140 domestic companies and 70 foreign companies from Germany, Italy, Taiwan, Turkey, Japan, China, Switzerland, Croatia and South Korea. The feature of this period of the elevator exhibition was the presence of companies that were able to localize this industry 100% and benefit from Iranian knowledge, expertise, and raw materials. Presenting initiatives and innovations in the elevator industry and related industries gave another effect to the seventh exhibition.
The 8th Iran LIFTEX was held in an area of 10,000 square meters with the presence of more than 90 domestic companies and foreign representatives from Turkey, Spain, Italy, and Germany. Holding training workshops, the presence of start-ups to achieve prosperity of domestic production and approach global standards, as well as inviting business delegations were among the most important programs of the 8th International Exhibition of Elevators, Escalators, Hoists, Conveyors, Parts, and Accessories. Also, specialized B2B meetings were held in this exhibition with the presence of business delegations from Iraq, Afghanistan, Tunisia, and Syria.

The 9th Period of Iran LIFTEX (the International Exhibition of Elevator and Related Industries and Equipment) was held in 2021 at the Tehran International Permanent Fairground.

Tehran’s permanent exhibition center is located in the north of Tehran, on the Chamran highway, which is accessible from all highways. The total area of ​​the exhibition is about 850,000 square meters, of which 120,000 square meters are specified for indoor space and 35,000 square meters are specified for exhibition space. The exhibition center has about 22 hectares of green space that have created a pleasant environment for participants and visitors and about 21 hectares of access roads to the halls and grounds.
